Increasing Staff Productivity in the Summer
As warmer weather sets in for many contractors, painting businesses are busier than ever. This is the best time to start asking yourself if your staff’s productivity is keeping up with demands. In a podcast conversation, Danny Kerr explains some tips for keeping painters motivated in the summer and throughout the rest of the year.
By the time July and August come around, your staff has been working hard for multiple months and productivity might begin to drop. This season has the potential to be the most profitable time of the year for your company, so it’s crucial to take steps to keep your team working effectively.
Set Goals
To get started, it’s important to get your staff in a goal-oriented mindset. Determine what you can achieve together. Outline exactly what they’ll be doing for the company. But, more importantly, make it personal. Include what your painters can do to achieve their own personal objectives and keep them motivated.
Have Regular Conversations
Make it a point to sit down one-on-one with your staff. Do a weekly review of their goals and compare it to their production. In this meeting, you’ll cover where they are behind, where they’re performing well and how they can continue to develop their skills. The purpose of this is to strategize and act as a coach to your employees, instead of just a “boss.”
